Parent Permission Letter and Student Permission Letter

These letters are the first introduction of my research project to my parents and students.  They outline the what, who, and why of my project, along with describing the benefits, risks, and costs to participants.  It is important that these letters are descriptive and accurate as to ensure students and parents that all participants will be treated equally and fairly.

Preliminary Student Survey

In order to create baseline data, I am planning on conducting a survey of all of my 31 students in the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year.  Part of this survey is designed to assist me in building a history of the reflective practices and presentation experiences my students have been exposed to in their past classes.  It is important for me to ground myself with their past experiences, so that I will be able to use that data to direct me on the right path for planning out their projects and exhibitions for the first quarter.

6th Grade Bingo Card

This document was used during one our first team-building activities.  The focus of the exercise was for each student to walk around the room and engage in small conversations with their peers.  In do so, students were are to learn interesting facts about each other, thus allowing them to start the process of building a relationship.

Critique Workshop

By teaching students how to develop a product over the course of multiple drafts, they are able to understand that fine-tuning a product takes time, effort, and teamwork.  The key factor with critiquing is the interdependence amongst students.  By working together to workshop one product, they are able to use the power of all of their minds to help a peer turn his/her work into a masterpiece.

Beautiful Work and Critiquing Survey

This survey is a sample of the reflective question I gave the students to help me gain a better understanding of how they were experiencing critiquing in our classroom.
